COMMUNITY IS AT THE HEART OF AMITY
Amity Coffee Roasters & Cafe was selected as the recipient of the annual We Are Limitless Studios mural giveaway.
Located inside Greenwood’s historic fire hall, Amity has become much more than a place to grab a cup of coffee. It is a gathering space where people meet, work, slow down and connect.
Amity’s tagline, “Cultivating Community,” perfectly captured both the spirit of the business and the kind of mural experience WALS wanted to create.
A DESIGN ROOTED IN AMITY
The mural features a coffee plant growing across the wall through green leaves, white flowers, bright coffee cherries and scattered coffee beans.
At the center of the design, the words “Cultivating Community” transform Amity’s tagline into a message that can be seen and experienced throughout Downtown Greenwood.
The imagery connects the process of growing coffee with the care required to grow meaningful relationships. Both take time, attention and the right environment to thrive.
PAINTING IT TOGETHER
The community came out during the first two days of installation to help bring the mural to life.
More than 75 people painted alongside WALS, including Amity’s owners and their children, local business and property owners, WALS supporters who traveled from throughout the region and members of the general public who simply happened to be passing through Greenwood.
Children and adults of different ages, backgrounds and walks of life worked side by side, adding color to the coffee plants, flowers, cherries and other elements throughout the design.
WALS artists then completed the finishing work and final details needed to bring the full composition together.
The community did not simply receive a finished mural. They became part of creating it.
A NEW MESSAGE FOR GREENWOOD
Before this project, the large exterior wall sat empty in a town with very little visible public art.
Today, the mural greets people as they travel through Greenwood. Coffee plants, flowers and cherries grow across the deep blue wall, surrounding Amity’s message: “Cultivating Community.”
The phrase describes more than the business. It reflects the way the mural itself was created.
What was once an empty wall now delivers a colorful message about connection, participation and the kind of community Greenwood can continue growing together.
A SHARED COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY
Amity owners Melody and Elmer Slaubaugh have built their business around bringing people together. Their commitment to Greenwood made Amity a natural choice for our annual mural giveaway. Melody, Elmer and their children also joined us in painting the mural, making “Cultivating Community” more than a tagline.
It became the story of how the artwork itself was created.
