Call for Artists

The Shore Walls Mural Festival is the Eastern Shore’s first-ever mural festival, bringing large-scale public art to Salisbury, Maryland.

This inaugural event will feature 5 murals painted over 5 days, transforming shared spaces while celebrating creativity, connection, and community. Shore Walls invites artists of all backgrounds and experience levels to submit proposals for paid mural opportunities as part of this landmark event.

The festival will take place May 26–30, with murals painted throughout the city during the week.

Who Should Apply

We are seeking:

• Local Salisbury artists

• Regional artists

• National artists

Never painted a mural before? That is encouraged.
One of the five walls is dedicated specifically to first-time muralists, with guidance and support provided throughout the process.

Artist Compensation

Selected artists will receive:

• A stipend between $2,500 and $4,500, based on the assigned wall

• Reimbursement for supplies up to $500

Compensation is determined by wall size, complexity, and accessibility.

Design Guidelines

Shore Walls murals are intended to enhance shared public spaces and speak to the community as a whole.

• Designs should reflect inclusive themes such as community, connection, creativity, place, optimism, and collective experience

• Artwork must not include political or partisan messaging, advocacy, violent imagery, or content promoting a specific ideology or agenda

• Selected artists will collaborate with Shore Walls and the participating property owner

• Final design approval is at the discretion of Shore Walls, the property owner, and the Historic Committee of Salisbury, MD

Festival Schedule & Artist Expectations

• Wall preparation will take place on May 25
  Artists are expected to be available to prep their assigned wall prior to the start of painting.

• Murals will be painted May 26–30
  While full completion by May 30 is not required, it is highly recommended so that murals can be fully experienced during the festival week.

• Artist Reception
  All selected artists will be invited to participate in an artist reception on Friday evening at Unity Square in Downtown Salisbury, providing an opportunity to connect with the community, partners, and fellow artists.

Important Dates

• Artist submissions open: Now through January 19

• Artist notifications: January 26

• Final design submissions due: February 26

Only selected artists will be invited to submit final designs.

Selection Process

Artist proposals will be reviewed by the Shore Walls team in collaboration with participating property owners. Artists will be selected based on artistic quality, alignment with festival themes, feasibility, and overall fit for the specific wall locations.

Submission of a proposal does not guarantee selection.
